Sherlock Thoughts

Sherlock is actually the story of John using a familiar character from his childhood to deal with his PTSD. Sherlock is his subconscious trying to ignore the death that surrounded him by rationalising it. Moriarty is John giving in to the thoughts that plague him: it all means nothing, it’s all senseless, and he must give in to despair. The ending makes perfect sense in this context.
